The first time

The first time I said pasta and you uttered noodles

I knew we were different.

The first time I said bagel with a schmear,

you thought I was morning drunk.

The first time I said fish and you said no,

I smiled.

The first time I sat on the couch and read you my poetry,

your eyes glazed, you softly shook your head.

The first time I kissed you, I was lost

The first time you held me and I wore nothing

You said oooh and you smell so good.

If we are reborn until our perfection is met

transferring only energy as from one pool ball

to the next as it glides ‘cross the green,

then we are done an become a star.
